How do I close my savings account?

There are different ways to close your account depending on the type of savings account you have. Find your account type below and follow the steps to closing your account

Which type of savings account are you looking to close?

To close your Internet Saver account, your balance must be at £0 - you can transfer money out of your account easily in our Mobile Banking App or Online Banking.

You can close your account easily in our Mobile App by visiting ‘Account Management’. We’ll confirm the total interest you’ll be paid and how you’d like it to be paid before you go.

Alternatively, if you don’t have login details, you can request to close your account by downloading our closure form below, saving it to your device and emailing it back to us at SavingsClosureRequests@tescobank.com. This way can take up to 30 days for us to process your request and for your account to be closed.

    We’ll send you a closing statement in the post once your account is closed.

      Before choosing to close your account you may want to consider all the Maturity Options you have available to you. You can reinvest your savings for a new fixed rate and term and keep your same account details.

      Your Fixed Rate Saver account can only be closed once your fixed term period has ended, though you can set an instruction for it to close in Online Banking at any time. If your account is still within its fixed term, the account will close on the day your account matures and may take a couple of days if the instruction is set after your fixed term has ended.

      To set your account to close:

      If your fixed term hasn’t ended but you need access to your money, this can only be done in exceptional circumstances. If this is the case, please call us on 0345 678 5678* to discuss your situation with one of our colleagues.

        If you’re planning to use the funds in your Tesco Bank ISA to fund another ISA account you should do this through the ISA Transfer Process with your new provider - not by moving the money out of your account yourself. Moving the money out of your account and into a new ISA yourself would lose its tax-free status and count towards your ISA limit for the current tax year.

            If you’re planning to use the funds in your Tesco Bank ISA to fund another ISA account you should do this through the ISA Transfer Process with your new provider - not by moving the money out of your account itself. Moving the money out of your account and into a new ISA yourself would lose its tax-free status and count towards your ISA limit for the current tax year.

            To move your funds and close your account please call us on 0345 678 5678*.

            If your account is still within its fixed term and you want to withdraw any funds, you can only withdraw or transfer the full balance and close your account - you will be charged a fee equal to 90 days interest on the balance of your account.

            We’ll send you a closing statement in the post once your account is closed.

              You can’t withdraw the funds or close a Junior Cash ISA - the money in the ISA belongs to the child, who can only withdraw it when they reach age 18.

              However, you can transfer the funds to another Junior ISA at any time. If you wish to move some or all of the balance of your Tesco Bank Junior Cash ISA to another provider, please contact your new provider directly - they will arrange everything with us.

              In exceptional circumstances withdrawals may be allowed, for example, where the child is diagnosed with a terminal illness. We need permission from HMRC to do this. For more information about this please contact us.

                To close your Instant Access Savings Account, your balance must be at £0 - you can transfer money out of your account easily in our Mobile App or Online Banking.
